Kenwood: sunroom, December 1968.

More superlative sunroom shots from December 1968; the back wall and cupboards looking a little threadbare following Cynthia's clearance job. No more Safe As Milk (though shurely Lil and Cyn didn't nab those. Beefheart was, apparently, quite critical of the Beatles' more psychedelic oeuvre, which is a bit rich coming from the man who released Strictly Personal (though the phasing wasn't his fault). Still, whatever point I was trying to make when I began this sentence, some time ago, should be clear). Compare with June '67 - and note the re-upholstery of the couch had begun even then:

Enthralling stuff, yes? Hello? Helloooo? Echoechoechoetc etc etc.
Anyway, tea and salad was the order of this particular day:

  1. It's interesting to see what 18 months will bring if you don't cut your hair. Great comparison shot. I always thought that John had 3 distinct looks during the 60's. Mop-top John, Psychedelic John and Hippie John. You've got 2 of them covered here. On a side note, do you know if John ever had a nose job? If you look at pictures of him from 1980 compared to the 60's his nose looks really different. Just more non-sense to think about. Keep up the good work.

  4. Terrific photos. I like how the whiter sunroom reflects the whole 'white' period he was into then.

And I miss double-exposures... I know you can do anything with Photoshop, but it's not quite the same, something subtle in the texture of photographic film that...(fade here).

  5. The P.L.R.S.-has hit on something that bothered me for ages -in the 80s I remarked to my partner that John looked like he'd had some sort of nose op'(I thought it might have something to do with sinuses) Who nose?(ooops that's Pete Townsend)
